Mt. Fuji
Fuji is the most famous and highest mountain in Japan, standing at 3776 metres above sea level. It is an active volcano located on the border between Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures. Fuji is one of the few volcanoes in the world with a base straight line of approximately 40 km and a height of over 3000 m. Volcanoes generally erupt on top of high mountains. It is said that its present beautiful form was created approximately 10 000 years ago.It can be seen from Tsukuba City.
Mt. Tsukuba
Mount Tsukuba is a mountain 877 m high at the northern end of Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, in the eastern part of the Kanto Region of Japan. It is the precincts of Mount Tsukuba Shrine and consists of Nantaisan (male body) on the west side and Nyotaisan (female body) on the east side. Its official name is Shiho (Purple Peak). Also called Tsukuba Ridge, it is regarded as one of the symbols of Ibaraki Prefecture.
